welcome

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Directors of The Alliance for Vision Research, welcome to the 8th annual A Night For Sight Charity Wine Auction.

This year we continue our theme of “Vision for the Future”, so beautifully represented in the print of children in the vineyard that has been so caringly expressed by the image on this year’s invitation and catalog. The generosity of Corinne Reichel of Rivervine Press, the publisher of “The Grapes Grow Sweet” and of Lynne Tuft, whose story and illustrations are so precious have enabled us to use the artwork.

This print and the entire event represent a hope for the future for the visually impaired. Both support our desire to fulfill the mission of the Alliance for Vision Research: to restore, preserve and improve vision, primarily in children.

Last year the Alliance was able to fund 16 research projects and/or local organizations which directly aid the visually impaired.

Our Honorary Vintners this year are Jorge Ordoñez of Fine Estates from Spain, Stuart Bryan of Pride Mountain Vineyards, Tim Dolven of Steltzner Vineyards, and Louis de Coninck of Beaucanon Estate, all of Napa Valley; and Marylou and Don Coe of Black Star Farms of Michigan. We thank them for taking time from their busy schedules to travel here and for their generosity in supporting our charity.

Our Chairpersons this year are Dr. Peter and Marie Savino of La Jolla, California and Scot and Elisabeth Morrison of Rochester Hills, Michigan. Their support and endorsement of this year’s function are greatly appreciated.

Once again we thank the area wine distributors, retailers and others in their field for an amazing effort in helping plan and organize the event, logistic support, access to the wine world and to volunteer support.

We of course would be remiss in not thanking our Committee without whom this event would not come to fruition: Rich and Karen Brown, Beth and Scot Morrison, Carol Hepler, Deloris and Alan Hillman, Nancy and Shannon Vesper, Barbara Pitcher, Karen Nesi, Connie Adamo, and the “Saturday Morning” wine group Vic Leo, Mike Jett, Alan Lampear, Michael Schafer and Darrell Finken for their perseverance in categorizing and labeling all the wines.

Once again we begin the weekend with Vintner dinners preceding the event. Thanks to the Barbieris, Gladstones, Sovis’ and Vespers for opening their homes to our Patron Level attendees.

Enjoy the evening!
Remember Its All About the Kids!
