Frank A. Nesi, MD

The Michigan International Wine Auction, A Night for Sight is proud to have Frank A. Nesi, MD as its co-founder and first chairman. Dr. Nesi is Director of Oculoplastic Surgery at Beaumont Eye Institute, Department of Ophthalmology of William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Michigan, and Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology at the Kresge Eye Institute, Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan, where he founded the Oculoplastic Surgical Service.

Author of seven text books in his field, he has also authored countless chapters and articles in professional publications and serves on the editorial board of several scientific publications. He has lectured both nationally and internationally at universities throughout the world and regularly performs surgery outside the United States. He holds a standing visitor professorship at the University of Oviedo in the north of Spain.

Dr. Nesi is one of the very few fellowship preceptors designated to train oculoplastic surgeons in the United States. He is a Fellow and a member of numerous national and international professional societies including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, and the American Medical Association, and the Michigan State Medical Society, the Michigan Ophthalmological Society.

He has also served as Executive Director of the Kresge Eye Institute Alumni Association for twenty years. A native of New York City, Dr. Nesi received his ophthalmic training at the Kresge Eye Institute at Wayne State University and the Manhattan Eye, Ear, & Throat Hospital in New York City. He developed an interest in food and wine at his uncle’s restaurant in Manhattan, an interest that was cultivated as a student during his studies at the University of Bologna, Italy. He and his wife, Karen, travel extensively to the wine regions of the world and are members of several societies dedicated to the enjoyment of food and wine. His hope is to see The A Night for Sight expand into one of the premiere charity wine auctions in the country and to use the funding from it to further ophthalmic research, education and care for the visually impaired, especially children.

"Being an ophthalmologist is a joy because I can help people preserve their sight and maintain their independence. There is a small group of people, however, that will lose this precious gift of sight in spite of our best efforts. My hope is that the proceeds from "A Night for Sight" will benefit research and education to prevent loss of vision, or at least bring hope to people facing the prospect of failing vision." - Paul Fecko, MD Chairperson
